The United Way of Summit County Tocqueville Society

The Tocqueville Society is a United Way of America leadership giving and recognition program founded in 1984, and started locally in 1989 under the leadership of Ann and David Brennan. It exists to foster, promote and recognize the vital importance of voluntary community service and personal giving at an exceptional level.  Membership includes individuals annually donating $10,000 or more.  

The society is named for the 18th century French explorer, Alexis de Tocqueville, who wrote of the generosity of the American spirit in his work 'Democracy in America'. 

Tocqueville Society levels:
Million Dollar Roundtable a gift of $1 million
(can be paid over five-year period)
Ordre de Prospérité annual gift of $750,000-$999,999
Ordre de Connaissance annual gift of $500,000-$749,999
Ordre d’ Indépendance annual gift of $250,000-$499,999
La Société Nationale annual gift of $100,000-$249,999
Ordre de Fraternité annual gift of $75,000-$99,999
Ordre d’ Egalité annual gift of $50,000-$74,999
Ordre de Liberté annual gift of $25,000-$49,999
Membres de la Société annual gift of $10,000-$24,999
Recognition: Name listed in national and local recognition materials (if permission is granted); Invitation to Tocqueville Society and Torch Society events.
