Purpose of the Young
Leaders Society
The Young
Leaders Society (YLS) was established in 1996 to recognize young leaders
who value the importance of philanthropy and who believe in and support
the work of United Way. This group exemplifies the best Summit County
has to offer in the form of young women and men who share their spirit
and resources for the betterment of our community.
The Young Leaders Society
encourages members to be proactive in increasing membership through
leadership giving, to provide networking opportunities through
social events and volunteerism, and to educate members on social
issues and needs in order to prepare and inspire them for leadership
roles within the community.
Who is Eligible to
Join?
Any individual or couple who contribute to the United Way of Summit
County at the leadership level of $1,000 and above and is age 40 or
younger is eligible to join YLS. Couples may combine their gifts to
become eligible (at least one partner must meet the age criteria).
Eligible donors are encouraged to check the YLS box on their pledge form
to ensure they are invited to future YLS events.
The Young Leaders Society also offers
two step-up
programs, which allow donors to incrementally increase to a $1,000
gift while being recognized as a YLS member from
the beginning.
The regular Step-Up
Option asks members to commit to a minimum gift
of $500 in year one, $750 in year two, and $1,000 in year three.
The new Age-Based Step-Up Option asks members age 30 or younger to
make an annual gift of $500, age 31 to 35 an annual gift of $750,
and age 36 to 40 an annual gift of $1,000.
