UNITED WAY OF SUMMIT COUNTY
SEEKING NOMINATIONS FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
(AKRON, OHIO) – United Way of Summit County (UWSC) is
seeking nominations for its 2007 Distinguished Service Award. This
award has been presented annually since 1959 to citizens who have
consistently demonstrated the highest degree of interest, personal
dedication and service in a voluntary capacity to the improvement of
health, welfare and education in our community. It is the highest
volunteer honor given by this United Way of Summit County.
Past winners include Bert Polsky, Betty Jaycox, John S.
Knight, Ann Amer Brennan, John D. Ong, Dorothy O. Jackson, and last
year’s winners Marc B. Merklin and Orville L. Reed, Jr.

awards will be presented at United Way of Summit County’s Annual
Meeting, on Thursday, April 26, 2007. Deadline for nominations is
Friday, February 16th.
Any individual who displays the characteristics
consistent with the intent of the award is eligible. Nominees should
live and/or work in Summit County and should have demonstrated
significant service to a variety of human service agencies or programs
that directly impact social service issues for which the entire
community benefits. Due to the active, ongoing nature of the award and
its intent, candidates nominated posthumously will not be considered. Preference
is given to nominees with a history of volunteer service to United Way
and/or affiliated agencies.
