FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PROGRAM HELPS SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES
RUN EFFECTIVE CAMPAIGNS
(AKRON,
OHIO) – The School Board Governance Project is sponsoring a seminar
called “Keys to an Effective
Election Campaign’ on Saturday, August 11, 2007 from 8:30
am to 12:00 noon at the University of Akron Arts & Science Building,
room 136 (at the corner of Buchtel & College Streets). This seminar is
free and open to the public.
School Board
candidates, their committee members and other interested individuals
from across the community are encouraged to attend and learn how to
create a campaign plan, make wise campaign decisions and use campaign
resources effectively. Participants will have the opportunity to
discuss strategy with a campaign professional and practice decision
making in the heat of the campaign.
Susan
Vogelsang, chair of the School Board Governance Project, said, “Running
for the school board takes more than just putting your name on the
ballot. Winning the election and having the campaign focus on what you
think is important takes a well-organized, efficient campaign.”
Scheduled to
lead the program is Steve Brooks, Associate Director of the Ray C. Bliss
Institute of Applied Politics at the University of Akron.
The School
Board Governance Project is a collaboration of The District 13 Akron
Council of PTAs, Akron Children’s Hospital, The League of Women’s Voters
of the Akron Area, Summit Family and Children’s First Council, The
United Way of Summit County, and the Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied
Politics.
