United Way of Summit County urges you to make calls to our
state legislators to support funding for Foodbanks in the Ohio
Budget for 2010-11. Governor Strickland's most recent budget
proposal eliminates funding for Foodbanks completely.
Approximately 25% of the product the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank
distributed in 2008 came from state-funded food programs.
Below is contact information for the Ohio State Senate Leaders,
House Leaders and Budget Conferees. Please call them today to
support funding for our Foodbanks!
Here are some messages you can use:
• Thank them for their previous support!
• Urge them to fully fund the Ohio Association of Second Harvest
Foodbanks budget request of $17 million per year/$34 million over
the biennium to support critical hunger relief programs.
• The funding from the state of Ohio is essential to reducing hunger
in Ohio and represents 25% of all food distributed statewide, and
25% of food distributed by the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.
• In times of economic hardship, we need leadership and urge them to
raise revenue sufficient to fund basic needs and vital services.
• Basic needs must be the highest priority at this time!
