CODE BLUES WINS 2011 DOCS WHO ROCK
(AKRON,
OH) – After the judges scores were tabulated and the
audience reaction measured, Code Blues, a 13-member band
featuring four doctors and two medical students, was crowned
champion of United Way of Summit County’s eighth annual
‘Docs Who Rock’ physician talent show.
Sponsored by Akron General Medical Center and The University
of Akron, the show was held Saturday, October 22 at E.J.
Thomas Performing Arts Hall before a raucous crowd of more
than 1,000. An eclectic array of music – including rock,
R&B, big band and classical – was performed by 10 different
bands during the three-hour show.
Code Blues consists of Dr. Debbie Plate, Dr. Paul LeCat, Dr.
Colleen Calvey, Dr. Eric Panzner, medical students Jay
Grandhi and Zaid Khatib, along with David Arnott, Nate
Arnott, Wade Branard, Bob Collins, Ryan Collins, Justin
McCutcheon and Billy Smith.
The first Docs Who Rock show was held in 2004 at the
Downtown Akron Main Library’s auditorium, and since then has
grown into a major theatrical production at one of the
region’s top venues.
Retired
cardiologist Dr. Terry Gordon had the crowd in stitches with
his performance as all five members of The Village People
and then in act two, his over-the-top impression of Lady
Gaga.
