Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority Playgroups
In the spring of 2007, The Women’s Society of United Way of Summit County in conjunction with Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) established playgroups based on the Born Learning program within select AMHA facilities. Start up costs for this program are being covered by United Way’s Women’s Society and implementation is financed through a $10,000 grant awarded through the H. Peter Burg Fund of the Akron Community Foundation. A pilot playgroup project was established in Summit Lake Apartments in the spring of 2007 and then will be replicated at three to four additional AMHA facilities in the fall of 2007. Born Learning DVD Distribution
The Women’s Society is selectively distributing the Born Learning DVD “Begin With Love” to clinics, hospitals and doctor’s offices, AMHA, food pantries and other facilities that serve the families of young children and that feature continuous play waiting room educational video presentations.
