Taking Back Life
By Mary

I really feel like I’m somebody, and that this isn’t the end.

Thanks to Vision Support Services, I am able to say this even though I have lost my sight. Through their support and dedication to providing adjustment to vision loss, and educational, social, and employment services to visually impaired persons; VSS has opened me to a whole new world.

When I first came to VSS by recommendation from my nurses at the hospital, I was a little scared and became discouraged with simple tasks. Because I received so much encouragement I have gained self-confidence and am now a member of “Wrapped in Love” a group that makes pillow quilts for foster children in our area.

Because of the encouragement to be independent I am also able to be more active in my everyday life by taking walks with my son, going to the park, being involved in my church, and attending a week long summer camp for the visually impaired.

I just can’t say enough good things about Vision Support Services and now I feel like I can do anything. Contributions to the United Way can give other people in my situation the same great feeling. Thank you for giving me my life back.
