The 2006 Youth Initiative Allocations Team


United Way of Summit County Involves Youth
through the Following Community Programs:

  • Youth Fundraising
    Students participate in annual fundraising efforts by organizing fundraisers at their school or organization. Ideas for youth fundraising
     

  • Youth Initiative Allocations Team (YIAT)
    Schools that helped raise money during the annual campaign are eligible to nominate student representatives to decide how their donations will be distributed. The YIAT Program includes training on community need, leadership skills development, agency tours, networking, and many other educational components.
     

  • Creative Arts Contest
    The contest was developed to tap into the creative minds of young people to better understand how United Way and the community need appears through their eyes.

  • Volunteerism/Internships
    Specific volunteer opportunities and internships are made available for our young population to encourage community involvement.
     

  • Harvest for Hunger
    Participate in one of the largest community-wide food and fund drives. Harvest for Hunger helps the Akron-Canton Food Bank feed people in need!  http://www.harvestforhunger.org/harvest/default.asp

     

  • Road Runner Akron Marathon
    You can be a volunteer at the Road Runner Akron Marathon. Dedicate your time to help contribute to the success of the city of Akron.  http://www.akronmarathon.org

     

  • Akron Reads
    You could be a community volunteer in the Akron Reads program. Help children polish their reading skills and help raise the reading scores in Akron public schools by being a tutor.  http://www.akronreads.com/

     

  • National Youth Service Day
    Give back to your community by participating in projects to help others in need. Your time can make a difference when you volunteer. Be a young leader in your community!

  • Read to Me Day
    You can volunteer to read to elementary age children in the Akron Public Schools
    on this fun day.
     

  • Youth Camps
    United Way can help place groups of youth volunteers at agency site projects.
