City
of Akron 'Soup-er Bowl' Benefits United Way
Last Sunday, the
City of Akron hosted the inaugural 'Soup-er Bowl -- Soup Throwdown' at beautiful Lock 3 Park in Downtown Akron. The proceeds from
this fun event were donated to United Way of Summit County.
Nicole
Read of the Akron Recreation Bureau created and executed the Soup-er
Bowl, including arranging for all the participating restaurants, and we're
extremely grateful for all her hard work. Thanks also to Mayor Don Plusquellic and Deputy Mayor Dave Lieberth for making this event possible.
The people's choice winner was the Twice-Baked Potato Soup from Kevin
O'Brian's Pub. Other prize winners were:
- Meatiest - Ivan's Chili
- Most Traditional - Lockview's Wedding
Soup
- Spiciest - Chin's Hot & Sour Soup
- Best Vegetable Medley - Diamond Deli's
Wild Rice Soup
- Most Creative - Ido's Chicken Pot Pie
Soup
- Best Variety - Panera Bread's Soups
- Best Decorated Table - Aladdin's
Restaurant
- Best Broth - Kevin O'Brian's Pub's Twice-Baked Potato Soup
- Most Creatively Named - United Way's
'Bob's Dragon Breath Chili' (provided by Bob Kulinski)
Early tabulations show the 'Soup-er Bowl' raised nearly
$1,000 for United
Way, an impressive total considering the sub-zero temperatures that
enveloped the City. Thanks to all the
restaurateurs, soup-eaters, and volunteers who braved the frigid weather to
help make 'Soup-er Bowl' a huge success.
