Nichole M. Booker, PhD

Vice President, Strategic Affairs

As part of United Way’s senior leadership team, Nichole provides strategic guidance to accelerate the progress of United Way’s community impact and engagement agenda. She leads a range of strategic initiatives, including the organization’s strategic planning and advocacy efforts.

A strong advocate for systemic advancement, she is responsible for gathering and analyzing insights and analytics, and for shaping the organization’s public policy agenda. Accomplishing this centers on meaningful engagement of people and organizations across sectors and perspectives – at the national, state and local levels – on issues that align with United Way’s Bold Goals and build community capacity for long-term impact.

She began her career in the private sector at a construction management company and later transitioned to academia as a researcher and instructor.  She hated it.  An Akron native and passionate about her city and surrounding community, Nichole knew her work needed to be more rooted within the community. So she made the move to nonprofit a decade ago, joined United Way in 2013 as senior director of community impact and has been in her current position since 2015.

Nichole earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology, a master’s degree in public administration and doctorate in public administration specializing in applied policy, all from The University of Akron.
