KaBOOM!®, United Way of Summit County and Foresters to build a playground in North Hill
Apr 01, 2016
The North Hill Community has been selected by KaBOOM!® and United Way of Summit County to build a KaBOOM! playground at Suddieth Park located at West Mildred and Salome Streets.
“It is very exciting for the City of Akron to partner with KaBOOM!, United Way and Foresters to offer our children and families of North Hill a place to play that is beautiful, fun and inviting,” said Mayor Dan Horrigan.
“United Way is happy to be a partner in bringing KaBOOM! To Summit County,” said Jim Mullen, United Way president and chief executive officer. “This aligns perfectly with our work to combat the childhood obesity epidemic in our community. We are excited about this opportunity to directly impact the families and children of North Hill by getting them active and playing.”
On Tuesday, April 5, at Findley CLC, 65 W. Tallmadge Avenue, child designers will meet from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. with community members meeting at 5 p.m. Children and families residing near Suddieth Park are invited to help design the playground. Representatives from United Way, City of Akron and Forresters will be in attendance to meet with the children as they help with the design of the playground. It is extremely important that we have at least 20 youth for the youth design session and 20 adults for the adult planning meeting.
Community groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and sports teams will also have the opportunity to sign up to serve on the planning committee to help develop the playground build day. They will use the children’s drawings to select equipment and colors for the new custom playground.
The build day is scheduled for June 18. KaBOOM!® is a national nonprofit dedicated to giving kids the childhood they deserve by bringing play to those who need it most. For more information, or to volunteer visit the website at: http://www.uwsummit.org/events.
