United Way Women's Leadership Council will host its annual Power of the Purse Luncheon on Monday, June 20, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Quaker Station in Akron. Now in its 14th year, the event celebrates the power of women to transform their communities and highlights the extraordinary efforts of female philanthropists throughout Summit County.
The keynote speaker for this year’s event will be Ohio Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor. During the luncheon, the Barbara Mathews Woman Philanthropist of the Year Award will be presented to Jeannine Marks, director of development at Stewart's Caring Place and co-founder of the Akron Marathon. Since 2004, the award has recognized women who have demonstrated a passion for helping others through their service and financial support to causes within the local community.
