2018 Request for Proposals
We are now accepting applications for our first phase of Bold Goal and Basic Needs funding. United Way of Summit County (UWSC) will make funding decisions that best align with the investment strategies within our Bold Goal strategies. This framework is a roadmap for addressing specific health and human service challenges facing our community.
Funding will be determined through a competitive application process. Agencies who are interested in applying for funding are encouraged to attend the informational RFP sessions that best align with the Bold Goal area(s) they will be applying to. Informational sessions are not mandatory. The dates and times of these sessions are as follows:
- Friday, August 18, 2017 - Bold Goal 2: College and/or Career Ready - 1 pm – 2:30 pm
- Monday, August 21, 2017 - Bold Goal 4: Addiction Prevention & Recovery - 1:30 pm – 3 pm
- Wednesday, August 23, 2017 - Basic Needs Assistance - 1:30 pm – 3 pm
- Thursday, August 24, 2017 - Bold Goal 1: Third Grade Reading - 1 pm – 2:30 pm
NOTE: At this time, we will not be holding an RFP meeting specific for Bold Goal 3: Financial Empowerment.
All meetings will be held at United Way of Summit County offices located at:
90 North Prospect Street, Akron, OH 44304.
Deadline for RFP Application Process
Funding applications must be submitted by Friday, September 15, 2017 at 11:59 pm. No late submissions will be accepted. Incomplete applications that are submitted will not be reviewed.
All completed applications will be assessed through a competitive review process. The review process will include a review of the funding application and a possible site visit. An agency may be contacted if additional information or clarification is needed throughout the review process. All funding decisions are final. There is no appeal process.
Below is a brief timeline of the RFP process.
- August 17, 2017 - RFPs are available online
- September 15, 2017 - DEADLINE: RFP applications are due by 11:59 p.m.
- Mid-December 2017 - Grant recipients are notified
- April 1, 2018 - New funding cycle begins
There are nine individual RFP areas. Each area has a specific and unique RFP application. Agencies may submit applications in more than one area. Below is a downloadable RFP Guide that explains in greater detail the RFP process and highlights the requirements for each of the nine RFPs.

The individual RFP applications can be found below. Each application is specific and unique. Applications must be downloaded, completed and submitted electronically. All additional requested materials must be submitted electronically as individual documents.
Bold Goal 1:
Third Grade Reading: 65% of Akron Public Schools 3rd Graders reading at or above grade level (currently at 38%)
Bold Goal 2:
College and Career Ready: 90% of APS high-schoolers graduating in 4 years, with 60% college/career ready (Currently at 75% and 21% respectively)
Bold Goal 4:
Addiction Prevention and Recovery: Reduce ER visits due to drug overdoses to 1,000 (Currently at 2,400 annually)
Safety Net services that support lower income households in Summit County
Shelter, Food Assistance, Information/Referrals, Transportation, Utility Assistance
