United Way Announces Level Community Investments
in 2016

United Way of Summit County is pleased to announce the total dollars it is investing in the community will remain consistent for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017 as compared to the previous fiscal year. The stability of these community investments comes in tandem with United Way’s continued movement toward a new organizational model that began to take effect earlier this year. United Way Partners to Bring KaBOOM!
Playground Build to North Hill

On Saturday, June 18, 2016 volunteers from United Way of Summit County, City of Akron and Foresters will build a great new place for kids to play in ONE day. The project is in partnership with KaBOOM!, the national nonprofit dedicated to giving kids the childhood they deserve by bringing play to those who need it most. This project aligns perfectly with United Way’s work to combat the childhood obesity epidemic in our community. Currently, 39% of Summit County Children are obese or overweight. Playgrounds give kids a chance to move their bodies as well as improve mental health and wellness.

Many volunteers are needed to prepare for this exciting day!

Kids and families in North Hill are needed to help design the playground on Tuesday, April 5. The playground will be built on Saturday, June 18 at Suddieth Park. Site preparation will be Thursday and Friday, June 16 & 17.
Let’s build a playground!

Participate in Our Smart Start Baby Shower Collection

Did you know? Summit County has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the nation. Poverty, poor housing, lack of access to medical care and maternal stress all can contribute to premature births and infant deaths.

You can help! Collect baby items in April to be distributed to at-risk mothers at the Smart Start Community Baby Shower on May 4. In addition to receiving necessities for their baby, moms will visit education stations with information on finding a doctor for their baby, car seat safety, infant safe sleep, breastfeeding, nutrition and more.
