“Stuff the Bus” Brings Supplies to At-Risk Students
For a child in need, a backpack full of school supplies can mean the difference between fitting in and falling behind in the classroom. With summer underway and a new school year just around the corner, United Way’s Stuff the Bus school supply drive – supported by participating sponsor Steere Enterprises – brings together corporate and individual volunteers to ensure that at-risk students in Akron Public Schools have the materials they need to succeed. More than 200 Volunteers Build North Hill Playground
On June 18, more than 200 volunteers transformed Suddieth Park in the North Hill neighborhood of Akron by building a playground in JUST ONE DAY! The event – a collaboration between United Way and KaBOOM! – featured appearances by Mayor Dan Horrigan and three Akron-native NFL players. The brand new playground will provide years of exercise and amusement to hundreds of children in the surrounding neighborhood. More >

“Neighborhood Reborn” Gives Much-Needed Makeover to University Park Blocks
A safe home in a thriving neighborhood is essential to the stability of every family. But to the tens of thousands of Akron families living in poverty, that can often seem like little more than a pipe dream. During United Way’s Day of Action, volunteers from throughout Summit County came together to bring that dream closer to reality for residents of Akron’s University Park neighborhood. The project, named Neighborhood Reborn and sponsored by Depend, is part of United Way’s efforts to revitalize neglected parts of Akron. More >

Day of Action 2016 Was a Resounding Success!
Day of Action this year was more than just Neighborhood Reborn and the KaBOOM! playground build. Hundreds of dedicated volunteers from all across Summit County came together to channel their passion into action and create a lasting positive impact throughout their community. 2016 Knight Breakfast to Feature Dan Pallotta
United Way's annual Knight Breakfast will feature an extra special guest — Dan Pallotta, renowned speaker and author of several books about the nonprofit sector. Pallotta’s 2013 TED talk “The Way We Think About Charity Is Dead Wrong,” has been viewed more than 3.9 million times, making it one of the 100 most-viewed TED Talks of all time.
