WE ARE CURRENTLY RECRUITING VITA VOLUNTEERS FOR THE 2020 TAX SEASON
Dedicated volunteers are needed to provide free tax preparation services to people with limited incomes. By helping working families take advantage of programs like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), you can help bring in millions of dollars to the local community -- dollars to help families jumpstart their savings, reduce debt and invest in Greater Akron. VITA is also an entry into other programs offered at the Financial Empowerment Center, such as free one-on-one financial coaching.
No experience is necessary and training is provided.
Benefits of volunteering:
- Build your resume
- Learn a new skill
- FREE IRS-certified training
- Flexible schedule
- Continuing Education Credits for Attorneys, Enrolled Agents, and CPAs
- Attend volunteer training
- Volunteer at least 5 shifts during tax season. Weekday, evening, and Saturday shifts are available.
IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers provide quality tax return assistance to taxpayers. Volunteers are also trained to provide referrals to other Financial Empowerment programs such as financial coaching and Bank On.
Training requirement: Tax Preparers attend a 1.5-day tax law training. Abbreviated training options are available for returning volunteers or experienced tax professionals.
Greeters set a positive and friendly tone for all clients at the Financial Empowerment Center. Greeters also assist with answering general client questions and scheduling appointments.
Training requirement: Greeters attend a 1.5-hour greeter training, which does not include tax law certification.
SITE COORDINATOR/LEAD VOLUNTEER
Site Coordinators and Lead Volunteers are volunteers who have significant tax law experience or previous experience at a VITA site who manage the volunteer shift, review returns and answer taxpayer and volunteer questions.
Training requirement: Site Coordinators/Lead Volunteer must be tax law-certified and also attend a 4-hour Site Coordinator training.
Register for a training and become a VITA volunteer. Multiple trainings are available in December and January. Tax season will begin on January 28, 2020 and end on April 15, 2020.
