United Way releases volunteer engagement calendar for 2019
Dec 03, 2018
United Way of Summit County today announced the release of its new engagement calendar for 2019. Available on the United Way website at uwsummit.org/volunteer, the calendar lists more than a dozen volunteer events throughout the coming year, which can accommodate both individual volunteers and large groups of corporate volunteers. Studies show that businesses that encourage their employees to participate in volunteer activities enjoy the benefits of improved employee job satisfaction and performance, as well as increased recruitment and retention.
The 2019 calendar includes the following events:
• Read to Me Day Barberton, March
• Page It Forward book drive, March
• Day of Action, June
• Engagement Summit, July
• Stuff the Bus school supplies drive, July – August
• Read to Me Day Akron, November
• Holiday Snack Packs food drive, November – December
In addition, volunteers can get involved in year-round opportunities like iC.A.R.E. Mentoring, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and more.
The opportunities offered in United Way’s engagement calendar have been designed to advance the organization’s four Bold Goals for 2025. Whether it’s helping students start the school year ready to learn through the Stuff the Bus school supplies drive in July and August, or financially empowering families through VITA during tax season, volunteers can target the way they want to make an impact on their community.
So far this year, 3,244 people and 315 companies have taken part in United Way volunteer events.
“One of Summit County’s greatest assets is the passion its residents feel for their community,” said Jim Mullen, president and CEO of United Way of Summit County. “Our volunteer opportunities let people channel that passion in ways that directly address our community’s most serious challenges.”
