2-1-1

Helps people across Summit County find local resources when they don’t know where to turn for help. Services include supplemental food and nutrition programs, substance abuse treatment, disaster services and more. Simply dial 2-1-1, or text your zip code to 898-211 for referrals to utilities and food pantries. 2-1-1 answered 70,703 calls and 3,057 texts for help in 2018. BANK ON RUBBER CITY

A coalition led by United Way and the City of Akron that works to expand access to safe and affordable banking products and services for Summit County residents. Learn more about Bank On Rubber City >


BRIDGES SUMMIT COUNTY

Provides workshops that train corporate groups and individuals to support people – in the workplace and out in the community – working to achieve financial independence. More than 10,000 people have completed a Bridges Summit County training. Learn more about Bridges Summit County >


COLLEGE AND CAREER ACADEMIES

United Way works with Akron Public Schools’ College and Career Academies to build partnerships with local businesses – providing valuable hands-on learning experiences for students and strengthening the education to employment pipeline. Over 1,200 students participated in the Freshman Academy in the 2018-2019 school year. Learn more about College and Career Academies >


COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

United Way hosts a variety of volunteer opportunities uniting our community to help make a difference. In 2018, more than 3,800 volunteers helped collect and distribute 474,248 supplies, serving 15,672 students. Learn more about Community Engagement >


FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER

A safe, welcoming place in a school where parents and caregivers can get information, assistance and referrals to community resources – from financial assistance to peer support and more. Learn more about the Family Resource Center >


FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT CENTER (FEC)

Created through a partnership with the City of Akron, the FEC provides free, one-on-one financial coaching, helping Summit County residents acquire the skills to budget and save, access safe and affordable banking and raise their credit scores. In its first year of operation, more than 500 clients received financial coaching through the FEC. Learn more about the FEC >


HOUSING SERVICES

Coordinates access to homeless shelters, permanent supportive housing and rent assistance for individuals and families living in Summit County who are homeless or facing eviction. In 2018, United Way’s Housing Services coordinated housing for 346 families that were homeless or facing eviction. Learn more about Housing Services >


iC.A.R.E. MENTORING

Provides students in grades K-12 with supportive role models. Unlike other mentoring programs, iC.A.R.E. mentors spend time with their mentees during the school day. iC.A.R.E. mentees earn higher grades and miss fewer days of school than their peers. Learn more about iC.A.R.E. >


IMAGINATION LIBRARY

Mails one book per month to preschool-age children – at no cost to their families. Every child from birth through age 5 in Summit County is eligible. More than 14,000 kids in Summit County receive free books every month from Imagination Library. Learn more about Imagination Library >


POLICY & ADVOCACY

United Way advocates at the local, state and federal level for causes vital to our community. We build a coalition of strong, unified voices calling for action on issues related to our Bold Goals. Training and resources are available for those interested. Learn more about Policy & Advocacy >


VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA)

Provides free tax preparation assistance to working families and individuals, helping them take advantage of valuable benefits, like the Earned Income Tax Credit. VITA clients received more than $2.2 million in tax refunds in 2019. Learn more about VITA >
