2019 Request for Proposals
We are now accepting applications for our second phase of Bold Goal and Basic Needs funding. United Way of Summit County (UWSC) will make funding decisions that best align with the investment strategies within our Bold Goal strategies. This framework is a roadmap for addressing specific health and human service challenges facing our community.
Below is a brief timeline of the RFP process.
September 2 – 6, 2019 - RFP Training for agencies
September 2, 2019 - Request for Proposal Available
September 27, 2019 - Full applications due with attachments
October – December 2019 - Grant review process
December 2019 - Funding Decisions Announced
February 1, 2020 - Agreements signed
April 1, 2020 - Funding Begins
Funding will be determined through a competitive application process. Agencies who are interested in applying for funding are encouraged to attend the informational RFP sessions that best align with the Bold Goal area(s) they will be applying to. Informational sessions are not mandatory. The dates and times of these sessions are as follows:
- Tuesday September 3, 2019 - Basic Needs: 10 am - 11:30 am • Bold Goal 4: Addiction, Prevention & Recovery - 1 pm - 2:30 pm
- Wednesday September 4, 2019 - Bold Goal 1: Third Grade Reading - 1:30 pm - 3 pm
- Thursday September 5, 2019 - Bold Goal 2: College & Career Readiness - 2 pm - 3:30 pm
NOTE: At this time, we will not be holding an RFP meeting specific for Bold Goal 3: Financial Empowerment.
All meetings will be held at United Way of Summit County offices located at:
37 North High Street, Akron, OH 44308.
Deadline for RFP Application Process
Funding applications must be submitted by Friday, September 27, 2019, at 11:59 pm. No late submissions will be accepted. Incomplete applications that are submitted will not be reviewed.
All completed applications will be assessed through a competitive review process. The review process will include a review of the funding application and a possible site visit. An agency may be contacted if additional information or clarification is needed throughout the review process. All funding decisions are final. There is no appeal process.
There are ten individual RFP areas. Each area has a specific and unique RFP application. Agencies may submit applications in more than one area. Below is a downloadable RFP Guide that explains in greater detail the RFP process and highlights the requirements for each of the ten RFPs.

The individual RFP applications can be found below. Each application is specific and unique. ALL applications and attachments must be submitted through e-CImpact. All additional requested materials must be submitted electronically as individual documents.
Please Note: All applications below are Word docx files and will download to your computer.
Bold Goal 1:
Third Grade Reading: 65% of Akron Public Schools 3rd Graders reading at or above grade level (Currently at 42%)
Bold Goal 2:
College and Career Readiness: 90% of APS high-schoolers graduating in 4 years, with 60% college/career ready (Currently at 76% and 19% respectively)
Bold Goal 4:
Addiction Prevention and Recovery: Reduce ER visits due to drug overdoses to 1,000 (Currently at 1,429 annually)
Safety Net services that support lower income households in Summit County
Food Assistance, Information/Referrals, Transportation, Utility Assistance and Shelter/Housing
