A Day of Action in Summit County

It’s not uncommon to see empty offices in Summit County on a Friday during summer months. And Friday, June 19 was no exception. The difference on that day was that the 1,400 or so missing workers were out in the community as part of the United Way’s Day of Action. More

United Way Launches New Website

This week, United Way of Summit County launched a new responsive website to better serve the needs of the community and tell the stories of our work. The new website is designed to be accessible to all people wanting information about United Way and our mission, from those in need to those looking to help through giving, advocating or volunteering. Dr. Deborah Plate to be Honored at Power of the Purse

Join us for the Power of the Purse luncheon on June 30 as we honor Dr. Deborah S. Plate, D.O. as the 2015 recipient of the Barbara Mathews Woman Philanthropist of the Year Award. Dr. Beverly Warren, president of Kent State University, will deliver the keynote address. More

staff members, summer intern

Two new staff members have been added to the United Way of Summit County team: Joseph Palmisano and Hana Lowe. Brandyn Costa also joins United Way as a summer intern. More

Bridges Team Meets With Congresswoman Fudge

We are proud of our Bridges Summit County team who met on June 12th with U.S. Congresswoman Marcia Fudge and her cabinet to describe how Bridges is changing the landscape of poverty in Summit County. Adult Diploma Program Offers Second Chance
One million Ohioans do not have a high school diploma. To help address this situation in Summit County, United Way is partnering with Stark State College and others on the Adult Diploma Program to give adults 22 or older a second chance at earning their high school diploma. The program begins in July and is free to qualifying participants. More

United Way Supports Free Diabetes Prevention Programs

The Akron Area YMCA receives support from United Way for its Diabetes Prevention Programs. Participants have the opportunity to become empowered with the knowledge and discipline to improve lifestyle and reduce risk for developing type 2 diabetes through healthy diet and energizing exercise. Classes are held at a variety of locations beginning in July. More

Rockwell Automation Hosts Car Show for United Way

Rockwell Automation will be presenting its 4th Annual United Way Car Show on Saturday July 18, at the company’s offices at 8440 Darrow Rd. in Twinsburg. Join Rockwell for a day of fun, food, music and cars with all proceeds benefitting United Way of Summit County. Registration is from 10 to 11 a.m. with the car show held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information contact Giselle Gainer at 330.487.6101 or by email.
